Description

The noctule of the Azores (Nyctalus azoreum Thomas,1901) is a bat of the family of the Vespertilionidae endemic to the Azores.Dimensions: Small bat,with head and body length between 51 and 57 mm,the length of the forearm between 36 and 41 mm,the tail length between 42 and 43 mm and the length of the ears of 12 mm.Appearance: The fur is short and shiny.The general color of the body is dark brown with the grayest hair base and with the dorsal parts sometimes covered with yellow-brownish hairs particularly close to the membranes.The snout is blackish,broad,with two glandular masses on the sides.The ears are blackish,short,wide and triangular.The wing membranes are blackish.The tip of the tail extends slightly beyond the wide uropathagio.
