Description

On the Nathusius bat ( Pipistrellus nathusii Keyserling & Blasius,1839 ) is a bat of the family of Vespertilionids spread to Europe.Small bat,with the head and body length between 39 and 58 mm,the length of the forearm between 32 and 37 mm,the tail length between 30 and 48 mm,the length of the ears between 10 and 14 mm and a weight of up to 15 g.The fur is relatively long and dense.The backbone parts range from light brown to dark brown with the base of darker hairs,while the ventral parts are lighter and greyish.The snout is wide,with two glandular masses on the sides.The eyes are small.The ears are short,wide,triangular,with rounded ends and with four folds on the inner surface of the auricle.The tragus is broad,with the end slightly curved forward,rounded and with a lobe at the back base.The wing membranes are dark,with the slightly marked white-yellowish rear edge,particularly between the paws and the fifth finger and attached at the back of the big toe base.The tail is long and completely included in the wide uropatagio,which is covered with hairs at the base.The calcar is long and provided with a fairing with a small spur in the middle.The penis is robust,bulbous,with a central furrow and strewn with short stiff hairs.It emits low-cycle ultrasound in the form of pulses of intermediate duration at an initial modulated frequency of 90 kHz and a final of 37 kHz.
