Description

Poiana Richardsonii is a mammal species first described by Thomson in 1842.Poiana Richardsonii is part of the genus African Lentils and Family Viverrider. This predator occurs in central Africa. The range extends from central Cameroon and western Congo-Kinshasa east to western Uganda and western Rwanda. The species is also found on the island of Bioko in Guinea Bay.The habitat consists of forests where the animal climbs in the vegetation. The individuals will be 33 to 38 cm long (head and bonfire),have a 35 to 40 cm long tail and weigh 500 to 700 g.The fur has a yellow to red brown primer. On the body are many black brown spots of different sizes. They form on the neck and sometimes close to the back's top lines.Otherwise the spots are irregularly distributed. The nose, throat and underside are covered in light gray fur.A dark line on the back of the back is usually narrow or missing completely. The tail's base color is usually brighter than on other body parts and there are 9 to 14 narrow dark rings. The species is hunted for fur's sake and as a bushmeat.Forest flaws can affect the predators' stock. However, the spread area is large and Poiana Richardsonii is not rare. The IUCN categorizes the species globally as viable.
