The stems grow from a taproot to reach a height of about 2.5 ft (80 cm) and bear numerous hairlike leaves no more than 0.8 in (2 cm) long. In the fall, wireweed produces clusters of white flowers on the branch tips.

It is a federally listed endangered species of the United States.
