Today’s Image of the Day from NASA Goddard provides a detailed look at the impact of drought in the central Brazilian Amazon rainforest, which was driven by an El Nino event and record-breaking warming in 2015-2016.

The Amazon basin has warmed by more than 0.5 degrees Celsius since 1980, which has been coupled with more frequent drought conditions. Three-dimensional measurements are helping scientists understand more about the impact that these events have on the massive trees of the rainforest and the carbon that is stored within them.
