Today’s Image of the Day from the European Space Agency shows Cyclone Idai on March 13, 2019, when it was positioned just to the west of Madagascar.

With 750 people confirmed dead so far in Mozambique, Malawi, and Zimbabwe, the African countries are now bracing for the inevitable spread of waterborne diseases such as malaria and cholera.

For days after the storm, people were rescued by boat and helicopter. In central Mozambique, there are more than 100,000 displaced individuals in shelters.
