Today’s Image of the Day from NASA Earth Observatory features a photograph of our planet buried under heavy cloud cover on June 21st, 2018.

The image was captured from the International Space Station by German astronaut Alexander Gerst.

Before embarking on the six-month Horizons mission, Gerst discussed how he would handle stepping into the role of commander.

“On the space station it is important that you are a nice boss,” said Gerst. “My main task is to make sure that there’s good communication, that everyone is happy and that everyone has what he needs and isn’t overworked or bored.”
