Algae bloom in the North Sea • Earth.com

Today’s Image of the Day from the European Space Agency shows the North Sea along with an algae bloom that covers most of its southern region.

The North Sea is one of Europe’s most important fisheries, and is linked to the Atlantic Ocean by the English Channel – the busiest shipping area in the world.

Harmful algal blooms are estimated to cost EU industries over 900 million euros every year.
