Today’s Image of the Day from NASA Earth Observatory shows the outcome of a strong  atmospheric river event that soaked southern Chile with nearly a month’s worth of precipitation in just two days.

According to atmospheric scientist René Garreaud of Universidad de Chile, 4 to 8 inches of rain fell near the city of Concepcion, causing landslides and severe flooding.

The image was captured on July 1, 2019 by the Enhanced Thematic Imager+ on Landsat 7.
