Today’s Image of the Day from NASA Earth Observatory shows fires that have emerged near the border of Bolivia, Paraguay, and Brazil since the beginning  of August 2019.

In order to highlight the active fire, the photo includes observations of shortwave-infrared light, and recently burned areas appear black.

According to NASA, the fire likely burned first in Paraguay and then spread into Bolivia and Brazil by August 19.

The image was captured on August 25, 2019 by the Operational Land Imager (OLI) on Landsat 8.
