Today’s Image of the Day from NASA shows how the Hubble Space Telescope has been used to study auroras on the poles of Jupiter, the largest planet in the solar system.

While Hubble observed and measured the auroras on Jupiter, NASA’s Juno spacecraft measured the properties of solar wind itself.

Jonathan Nichols from the University of Leicester said: “These auroras are very dramatic and among the most active I have ever seen. It almost seems as if Jupiter is throwing a firework party for the imminent arrival of Juno.”
