Changes in the Padma River over 30 years •

Today’s Image of the Day from NASA Earth Observatory shows how the Padma River in Bangladesh has transformed over the last 30 years.

The ever-changing river has not only altered in size and shape, but has also significantly shifted in location.

Hundreds to thousands of hectares of land erode into the Padma each year, regularly displacing people, homes, and farms.

These images were captured by Landsat satellites in 1988, 1992, and 2018.
