Last update: November 22nd, 2019 at 11:00 am

Today’s Image of the Day comes from the NASA Earth Observatory and features a look at Cinder Cone, a mound of loose rock in California’s Lassen Volcanic National Park.

Cinder Cone measures 750 feet in height and once erupted, spewing ash and lava all over the surrounding forest and covering it with dark igneous rock.

This image was captured by the Operational Land Imager (OLI) on board the Landsat 8 satellite.
