Cloud streets over the Sea of Okhotsk • Earth.com

Today’s Image of the Day comes from the NASA Earth Observatory and features a look at cloud streets and the Sea of Okhotsk covered in ice.

The Sea of Okhotsk is classified as a marginal sea, which means it is a portion of an ocean basin that is partially enclosed by islands and peninsulas. In this case, the Kamchatka Peninsula, the Kuril Islands, and Sakhalin Island tuck the sea away from the Pacific Ocean.

This image was captured by the Visible Infrared Imaging Radiometer Suite (VIIRS) on board the Suomi NPP satellite.
