Today’s Image of the Day from the European Space Agency is a composite photograph of the total solar eclipse over South America on July 2, 2019.

The image is made up of different combinations of polarized shots captured during totality. It was designed to bring out the details of the Sun’s extended atmosphere, or corona.

The photographs were taken by the ESA-CESAR team observing the eclipse from ESO’s La Silla Observatory in Chile.
