Today’s Image of the Day from NASA Earth Observatory shows the aftermath of intense rainfall across northern and central Iraq.

Weather is normally wet in this region during the month of November, but a particularly intense storm on the 22nd caused dangerous flash flooding that killed several people, injured hundreds of others, and displaced thousands.

Another storm system is expected to hit the area in the next few days.

This image was captured on November 27, 2018 by the Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS) on NASA’s Aqua satellite.
