Today’s Image of the Day from NASA Earth Observatory maps heavy monsoon rain that has fallen across Myanmar and southern and western India this month.

Excessive monsoon rainfall has caused deadly landslides, and rivers and streams have overflowed their banks.

More than 270 people have been killed in India, and thousands of homes are flooded.

The darkest red areas of the map represent the highest rainfall totals, with many places receiving more then 24 inches of rain between August 1 and August 12.

The data come from Integrated Multi-Satellite Retrievals for GPM (IMERG).
