Deforestation in Peru • Earth.com

Today’s Image of the Day comes courtesy of the NASA Earth Observatory and features a look at deforestation in Peru.

According to remote sensing scientists Clinton Jenkins from North Carolina State University, this area just east of Tamshiyacu, Peru is experiencing a deforestation rate of about 247 acres per week.

This image was captured by the Operational Land Imager on board the Landsat 8 satellite.
