Devastating flooding in northeast India • Earth.com

Today’s Image of the Day from NASA Earth Observatory shows severe flooding across northeastern India after heavy rainfall from July 11-16.

After months of drought, the heavy monsoon rains displaced at least seven million people across India, Nepal, Bangladesh, and Pakistan.

The intensity of the rainfall has devastated the region, causing landslides, overflowing rivers, and impassable roads.

Thousands of villages and towns have been cut off by the flooding, and at least 200 people have been killed.
