Today’s Image of the Day from NASA Earth Observatory shows widespread flooding in the Middle East caused by intense rainfall in late March and early April.

In Iran alone, more than 1,900 cities and villages have been affected, with at least 60 fatalities. Thousands of people have been displaced by flooding, and farms have been hit with hundreds of millions of dollars in damages and lost crops.

The severe spring weather has also impacted areas of Iraq, Syria, and Afghanistan.

This false-color image was captured on March 28, 2019 by the Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS) on NASA’s Terra satellite.
