Several plumes of dust storms across Egypt and Libya in late June, 2015. The Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS) aboard the Aqua satellite captured this true-color image on June 27.
A long, light colored plume appears to rise from the interior of Libya (west) and blow across Egypt, curling to obscure Cairo and much of the green Nile Delta from view. Along the interior of both countries, roughly parallel the coast, additional dust rises and blows across the tan, arid land. Dust storms and sandstorms are common in this region – so much so that they are considered the primary natural hazard of each country.
