Today’s Image of the Day comes from the NASA Earth Observatory and features a look at Earth and the Moon… from 3 million miles away.

The composite image was made using data captured by NASA’s OSIRIS-REx spacecraft’s MapCam instrument, which stands for Origins, Spectral Interpretation, Resource Identification and Security-Regolith Explorer.

The spacecraft’s primary mission is to map and explore asteroid Bennu, which could not only contain organic precursors to life, but may also closely pass or collide with Earth several centuries from now.
