Today’s Image of the Day comes from the NASA Earth Observatory and features a look at the extreme hot and cold temperatures recorded in different parts of the United States this winter.

The map was constructed using data from the Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS) on the Terra satellite from December 26, 2017 through January 2, 2018.

The northeast and midwest parts of the country have experienced record cold temperatures, while the southwest and Alaska have been abnormally warm.
