A fire cloud forms over Argentina • Earth.com

Today’s Image of the Day comes from the NASA Earth Observatory and features a look at a wildfire burning in the La Pampa Province of Argentina.

The fire prompted the formation of a pyrocumulonimbus cloud, which occurs when heat from the fire forces the air to rise. Once it has reached a high enough elevation, the air cools and the condensation of water vapor creates the cloud.
