Today’s Image of the Day comes from the NASA Earth Observatory and features a look at dozens of fires burning in eastern Russia’s Amur province.

It is suspected that most of the fires were started by people to burn crop debris, a common agricultural practice in the spring done to fertilize the soil and prevent forest encroachment.

This image was captured by the Visible Infrared Imaging Radiometer Suite (VIIRS) on the Suomi NPP satellite.
