Large fires continue to burn throughout the Cape York Peninsula in Queensland, Australia. This image was captured by the Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS) on the Aqua satellite on October 31, 2002, and shows the fires marked with red dots. To the north, fires are burning on the island of Papua New Guinea as well.
