Fires have been burning across northeastern Australia’s Cape York Peninsula since mid-September. This image shows the actively burning fires marked in yellow on a true-color Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS) image from the Aqua satellite, captured on September 29, 2003.
