Today’s Image of the Day from NASA Earth Observatory features a broad view of severe flooding in North Carolina that followed Hurricane Florence.

A preliminary estimate from the National Weather Service reports that nearly 8 trillion gallons of rain fell across the state from September 13 to 17, 2018.

The Trent River, which is one of 16 rivers that had reached major flood stage by September 18, reached an all-time high of 29 feet.

This false-color image was obtained using data from the Operational Land Imager (OLI) on the Landsat 8 satellite.
