Today’s Image of the Day from NASA Earth Observatory features the Andromeda galaxy, or M31. which is the largest neighbor of the Milky Way.

The image contains measurements of the motions of young stars represented by blue marks, and the yellow arrows indicate the average stellar motions at various locations.

In the background, NASA’s Galex satellite captured regions where new stars are forming.

The data was made available from the second release of the ESA’s Gaia satellite.
