Today’s Image of the Day from the European Space Agency (ESA) features Lake Dukan in northeast Iraq.

German astronaut Alexander Gerst tweeted this picture from the International Space Station with the caption, “What is planet Earth trying to tell us?”

Gerst kicked off COP 24, the United Nations Climate Change Conference that took place last week in Poland, with a statement about the fragility of our planet that he sees in this and other images from his vantage point in space.

Gerst addressed world leaders at Cop 24 in a recorded message, stating: “It is crystal clear from up here that everything is finite on this little blue marble in a black space, and there is no planet B.”
