Today’s Image of the Day from NASA features a globular star cluster called NGC 362 that is located in our Milky Way galaxy. NGC 362 appears next to stars from a distant galaxy, known as the Small Magellanic Cloud.

“This image is so interesting because it allows a study of the final stages of evolution of low-mass stars in NGC 362, as well as the history of star formation in the Small Magellanic Cloud,” said Ricardo Schiavon of the University of Virginia.

The image was captured on June 20, 2017 by the Galaxy Evolution Explorer.
