Today’s Image of the Day comes from NASA and features an incredible view at a glowing aurora captured at sunrise.

This image was taken on the International Space Station by NASA astronaut Ricky Arnold, who commentedsunrise crashes an aurora party over the southern hemisphere.”

Auroras occur when energetic particles and Earth’s magnetic field trigger reactions in the atmosphere where nitrogen and oxygen molecules release photons of light.
