Today’s Image of the Day from NASA features the Twin Jet Nebula, or PN M2-9, which is located at a distance of 2,100 light years from Earth

PN M2-9, an example of a bipolar planetary nebula, is characterized by two lobes on either side of a central star.

According to NASA, the nebula’s size increases with time, and its measurements suggest that the stellar outburst that formed the lobes likely occurred as recently as 1,200 years ago.

This image was captured on August 26, 2015 by the Hubble Space Telescope.
