Today’s Image of the Day from NASA Earth Observatory features an outbreak of fires across the border of Canada between Manitoba and Ontario.

Around 382 fires have ignited in the past week alone, and 60 percent of them were sparked by lightning.

According to the Canadian Wildland Fire Information System (CWFIS), over 4,000 fires have been reported in the country so far this year, burning an estimated 606,221 hectares of forest.

This image was captured by the Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS) aboard NASA’s Aqua satellite on July 18.
