Hurricane Dorian over the northern Bahamas • Earth.com

Today’s image of the Day from NASA Earth Observatory shows Hurricane Dorian centered over Great Abaco, an island in the northern Bahamas, as a powerful category 5 storm with sustained winds of 185 miles per hour.

According to the National Hurricane Center, Dorian had become the strongest hurricane ever documented in the northwestern Bahamas.

This natural-color image was captured at 2:05 p.m. Eastern Daylight Time on September 1, 2019 by the Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS) on NASA’s Aqua satellite.
