Today’s Image of the Day comes from the European Space Agency (ESA) and features a look at Japan and the surrounding Pacific Ocean waters.

Japan is a stratovolcanic archipelago that is actually made up of roughly 6,852 islands, although the four biggest are Kyushu, Honshu, Hokkaido, and Shikoku.

This false-color image was captured by the Copernicus Sentinel-3A satellite.
