Today’s Image of the Day comes from the NASA Earth Observatory and features a look at Kentucky Lake and Lake Barkley in Kentucky and Tennessee.

Both lakes were originally rivers until they were converted to lakes using dams to generate electricity and control flooding. In 1944, Kentucky Lake became the largest manmade lake east of the Mississippi River.

This image was captured by the Operational Land Imager on board the Landsat 8 satellite.
