Today’s Image of the Day comes from the NASA Earth Observatory and features a look at the eruption of the Kilauea volcano as seen from space.

Of course, the Kilauea volcano has been erupting continuously for the past 35 years, but when recent fissures emerged on May 3, 2018, lava flows and toxic gases forced the evacuation of many residents.

This image was captured by the Operational Land Imager (OLI) onboard the Landsat 8 satellite.
