Today’s Image of the Day comes from the U.S. Geological Survey and features a look at lava bursts at the Kilauea volcano’s Lower East Rift Zone.

This image was captured by a helicopter flying over Fissure 22. As we’ve reported, almost three weeks into the volcano’s erratic eruption, scientists now warn Kilauea may be entering into an even more violent period.
