Today’s Image of the Day comes courtesy of the NASA Earth Observatory and features a look at Lake Chad in central Africa.

In the past 45 years, Lake Chad has shrunk to less than one-tenth of its former size. The significant loss of water is a major cause for concern as the lake is responsible for sustaining over 30 million people in addition to wildlife.
