Today’s Image of the Day comes thanks to the NASA Earth Observatory and features a look at Lake Hinds in western Australia.

This photo was taken by an astronaut on board the International Space Station.

Lake Hinds is located just outside of Perth, Australia and measures only 5 kilometers in length. Most days, the lake is dry, revealing a shiny white bed of salt. But here, the lake has been filled by recent rainy weather.

Surrounding the lake are smooth lake beds and “bath-tub rings” that reveal that the lake was previously much bigger.
