Landing site for NASA's Mars 2020 mission • Earth.com

Today’s Image of the Day from NASA features the Jezero Crater on Mars, which will be the landing site for a mission to the planet in 2020.

Some of the sediments have minerals that were chemically altered by water that once existed on Mars. These sediments were carried by flowing water to form fans and deltas within lake basins.

In the Jezero Crater delta, sediments contain clays and carbonates.

This image was captured by instruments on NASA’s Mars Reconnaissance Orbiter (MRO).
