Today’s Image of the Day from the European Space Agency features the eye of Hurricane Florence as it appears from space.

German astronaut Alexander Gerst captured this image on September 12, 2018, from the the International Space Station as it hovered about 250 miles above the storm.

“Ever stared down the gaping eye of a category 4 hurricane? It’s chilling, even from space,” said Gerst.
