Ice has retreated in the Arctic over the last three decades • Earth.com

Today’s Image of the Day from NASA Earth Observatory features ice and snow cover in the Hornsund Fjord region of the Arctic Ocean, which retreated substantially between 1990 and 2017.

The 14 glaciers that flow into this remote Norwegian island region have all diminished significantly over the last three decades, which scientists have attributed to global warming.

The most dramatic changes can be seen in the Storbreen glacier, which is visible in this photo captured from a Landsat satellite.
