Today’s Image of the Day comes courtesy of the NASA Earth Observatory and features a look at lush mangroves along the Thane Creek in Mumbai.

Mangroves are short trees that have waxy leaves and tangled roots that are very important in maintaining flood control and water quality.

This image was captured by the Operational Land Imager on board the Landsat 8 satellite.
