Today’s Image of the Day comes thanks to the NASA Earth Observatory and features a look at the Mataiva Atoll in the South Pacific Ocean.

The Mataiva Atoll is the westernmost atoll in the Tuamotu Archipelago, which is part of French Polynesia. It was formed by a volcano and contains a central lagoon featuring stunning coral reefs.

This image was captured by an astronaut on board the International Space Station.
