Today’s Image of the Day comes from the NASA Earth Observatory and features a look at the city of Medina in western Saudi Arabia.

Medina is known as the second holiest city in Islam, as it contains the Prophet’s Mosque, one of the largest in the world, as well as the Prophet’s Tomb. The Al-Baqi’ cemetery is located just east of the Mosque and serves as the resting place of many of the Prophet’s relatives.
