Today’s Image of the Day comes thanks to the NASA Earth Observatory and features a look at the swirling, aqua waters of Laguna de Términos, Mexico’s largest coastal lagoon.

Laguna de Términos is located on the southeast coast of Mexico and measures a whopping 2500 square kilometers. The lagoon is separated from the Gulf of Mexico by Isla del Carmen, which contains Ciudad del Carmen, a city with a population of over 169,000 people.

This image was captured by the Operational Land Imager on board the Landsat 8 satellite.
