Monsoon season in southeast Asia •

Last update: November 17th, 2019 at 9:00 am

Today’s Image of the Day from NASA Earth Observatory shows major flooding in Thailand and Cambodia following seasonal monsoon rainfall.

In Cambodia, the Mekong River will typically overflow and spill across the floodplain during the rainy season, yet there is more rainfall in some years than in others.

This year, the monsoon season has drastically fluctuated between wet and dry weather, which has a major impact on agriculture across the region.

The image was captured on November 4, 2018 by the Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS) on NASA’s Terra satellite.
