Montecito after fire, rain, and mudslides •

Today’s Image of the Day comes from the NASA Earth Observatory and features a look at Montecito, California after this week’s deadly floods and mudslides.

Last month, the Thomas fire burned through the forests in the upper half of the image, leaving a sizable burn scar. But then this week, days of heavy rains triggered flash floods and mudslides that left over a dozen people missing or dead and at least 400 homes damaged or destroyed.

This image was captured by the Operational Land Imager (OLI) on board the Landsat satellite.
